HEAVYWEIGHT SOUL is 3 years old and soon to be turning 4…Although the days and frequency has changed a bit since it began,we have been in the first Friday of the month slot for awhile and that hasn’t changed for 2017.I’m excited because this Friday(March 3 2017) is 2 days away…If you haven’t had the opportunity to attend,well,that’s on you:) The vibe is extra festive…and I will leave it at that…

FUNK Y FUEGO is an event started in 2012 by Sean Owens and Myself that originally happened at the late Butterfly Social Club. Pretty sure the Butterfly and Buddah for that matter were history not long after we started and ended the intial run..but guess what??Thanks to Sean, FUNK Y FUEGO has been resurrected at Estereo in Logan Square. We’re a couple months in at this point but so far,so good!!The vibe is definitely tropical,soulful and funky.Lot’s of Afrobeat,Soul,Jazz,Salsa,Brazillian,Funk and some more shit:)You can find us every third Friday at Estereo…Also,Me and Sean have a series of exclusive FUNK Y FUEGO mix cd’s available but only if you catch us at Estereo…Next date: Friday March 17 2017.

The ALL VINYL IN STORE SERIES had it’s fourth birthday in December 2016 and we’re still going strong.However,there are some slight changes in the format. Instead of having guest selectors/dj’s every month,I have decided to generally book the guests once every 3 months.The reason being,it gives me more time to put together quality programming/curation.Since it’s inception(It’s my baby),I have been the booker,promoter,graphic designer and resident DJ and a Brother just needed a little breather:)..It still happens every last Saturday of the month at Hyde Park Records…
VINYL ENVY…So when I first came up with the Vinyl Envy concept,it was pretty much by accident.I was doing weekly nights at Streetside Cafe(2004-2011) at the time and normally they would have CDJ’s as well as 1200’s set up.One night I came in and the CDJ’s weren’t there.So,from that point on I never set them up again.Since this is also around the time that the majority of DJ’s were going digital,I decided to rebrand the night(2008) and we rode that till the Streetside was no more..Even though me and my night were out,I continued with VINYL ENVY and used it whenever I would do one-offs and guest spots including The Silver Room(Wicker Park),Casa De Soul,The Brass Monkey,Trencherman,Revel Room,The Sparrow,A-1 Records(NYC) and more…Always looking for a permenant home but still out there!!Upcoming dates include Saturday March 11 2017 at Branca and Friday March 24 2017 at Fox Bar at Soho House…
WORK ON THE SABBATH is currently undergoing some reformatting and restructuring is on hiatus until further notice….
PODCASTS are still popping!!I have also added a mixcloud page as well.Although there is definitely some exclusive content on the mixcloud page,it will also serve as kind of an archive for all my uploads.Although you can’t download episodes from there,it does make a pretty nice lil radio station…check’em out,subscribe and share…
